Working Group Noise participated in two consultations on railway noise. The first consultation was set out by the European Railway Agency (ERA) about the TSI norms for existing rolling stock. The second consulation was launched by the European Commision and goes into the effective reduction of noise generated by rail freight wagons in the European Union. It was found that noise emitted by rail wagons can be less noisier by applying braking blocks such as K- or LL blocks replacing the GG-blocks that are often applied in wagons. For new equipment disc-brakes should be considered. The final text of both reactions can be requested by contacting us or at the websites of ERA and the European Commission.
